The southern Gaza city saw some of the most intense internal confrontations since the war began, pitting Hamas security personnel against armed members from the al-Mujaida clan - a major families in southern Gaza.

As stated by Hamas, its security personnel conducted a raid in the district to arrest people suspected of working with Israel.

Conversely, resident testimonies detailed an offensive by about 50 men riding in multiple vehicles, equipped with automatic weapons and a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launcher, who invaded the al-Mujaida neighborhood and fatally shot five individuals from the family.

Clan fighters immediately retaliated, triggering prolonged gun battles with sustained exchanges of fire.

Reports spreading through online platforms – hard to authenticate – suggest that at least 11 Hamas personnel were killed, with multiple remains reportedly paraded in the streets.

Videos extensively circulated on the internet, which remain unverified, seem to depict multiple injured casualties in combat uniforms, accompanied by a audio commentary stating they belonged to Hamas's "special forces unit".

Separate video recorded sustained shooting and a rocket-propelled grenade striking a apartment block in the district.

Community leaders later intervened to mediate among the conflicting parties, resulting in an exchange of bodies aimed at control the deterioration.

Although the exact motives are still uncertain, the incident has heightened anxiety among local population.

Many worry that widespread weapons, hostilities between major families and Hamas's grip on power could spiral into situations resembling domestic warfare in a region already affected by population movement, devastation, and anxiety of additional disorder.

Analysts suggest that the degree of anger which Hamas faces from its numerous adversaries – groups that have been suppressed during its 17 years rule – is thought to be a significant component motivating the group to oppose the truce agreement.

Furthermore, there is concern of deadly retaliation, of meeting violent ends in the streets, since the agreement demands Hamas to fully surrender weapons.

Reports indicate that the commander of Hamas's combat unit in Gaza has shown reluctance regarding the proposal, which was announced recently.

The proposal includes a time limit for Hamas to accept or face severe consequences.
